Academic Unionization
United Academics-University of New Mexico (UA-UNM) is the exclusive representative of faculty members employed at the Albuquerque (central/main) and branch (Valencia, Taos, Los Alamos, and Gallup) campuses for the purpose of collective bargaining with respect to wages, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
There are two UA-UNM bargaining units – Unit 1 and Unit 2. Unit 1 consists of all faculty members as follows: assistant professor, associate professor, professor, professor of practice, research lecturer I, II, and III; research assistant professor, research associate professor, research professor; lecturer I, II, III; Senior Lecturer I, II, and III; Principal Lecturer I, II, and III; Instructor, and Senior Instructor. Unit 2 includes temporary part-time instructors (also referred to as adjunct faculty) and term teachers.

Bargaining
UNM and UA-UNM engaged in their first session of collective bargaining on January 14, 2020. The initial agreements between UNM and UA-UNM are dated July 1, 2021, through September 30, 2024.
