The Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of the University of New Mexico. The Office of Academic Affairs is responsible for all aspects of the academic mission, including research, teaching, service, community engagement, international work, and academic personnel. The current provost, Richard L. Wood, is serving in an interim role during the current academic year while UNM conducts a national search for the next Provost and EVP for Academic Affairs. Wood grew up in New Mexico from 1960-1978, then before worked in Latin America and completed graduate school (bachelor’s in Chemistry, master’s in Theology, Ph.D. in Sociology) in California. He returned to beloved New Mexico to join the UNM faculty in 1996, where he now also serves as Professor of Sociology.
