New Faculty Orientation coming on Aug. 11

July 23, 2025

To help new faculty get started on the right foot for the upcoming academic year, the UNM Office of Academic Affairs is hosting New Faculty Orientation (NFO) on Aug. 11 at Hodgin Hall.

The all-day event (lunch is provided) begins with check-in at 7:30 a.m., with the orientation beginning at 8 a.m. The event is open to all new faculty, including temporary and part-time faculty.

The purpose of the event, which is held in the fall and spring, is to help new faculty understand and make use of the many resources available to support their work, as well as to become familiar with UNM policies and processes.

The event is open to all new faculty employed at the Albuquerque campus. New faculty at UNM’s branch campuses should contact their branch dean of instruction for information on orientation.

New faculty should consult the Office for Academic Personnel new faculty page for details on registration.

The agenda includes presentations on the following topics:

  • UNM's students and how we support them
  • Student conduct, due process and CARE
  • Accessibility services for students
  • College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences services
  • Academic Technologies
  • Supports for effective teaching
  • Policies, norms and process to prevent discrimination at UNM
  • Support for faculty well-being
  • ADVANCE at UNM
  • Research support
  • Supporting graduate students

In addition, ADVANCE at UNM maintains individual profiles of new faculty members. New faculty members will receive invitations by email from ADVANCE to contribute a photo and answer a short questionnaire to complete their profile.
