Rebecca Sánchez is a professor of elementary education at UNM and most recently was associate dean for equity, inclusion and faculty affairs in the College of Education and Human Sciences. She joined the UNM faculty in 2005 and served as coordinator of the UNM elementary education program from 2017 to 2018.
Sánchez has published a wide variety of scholarly articles and book chapters on subjects such as curriculum for K-8 students, bilingual education, multicultural education, and place-based learning. She has also produced many creative works, including visual arts exhibitions and readings of her plays. She is the recipient of the Paula Vogel Award in Playwriting from the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival in 2016, and some of her creative works combine her expertise in education, such as This Scarlet F: A Research Performance of School Grading Measures. She earned a bachelor’s degree in government, and master’s and doctoral degrees in education, all from New Mexico State University. Then in 2016, she earned a master of fine arts degree in dramatic writing from UNM.
