Jennifer Love is chief of staff for the Office of Academic Affairs, a role that includes a wide variety of tasks. “I’m a jack of all trades.”
In addition to overseeing the staff operation in the provost’s office, she works closely with schools and colleges in hiring and personnel matters, staffing, reorganizations, faculty grievances, and is a liaison between UNM Human Resources and the schools and colleges. Love has also been extensively involved in working with schools and colleges to implement a consistent and fairly compensated academic advising structure. In addition, she works as a link to the Office of University Counsel and the Office of Compliance, Ethics and Equal Opportunity.
The Albuquerque native joined Academic Affairs in January 2008, and in those years, had held multiple positions. She earned a bachelor’s in business and a master of public administration, both from UNM.
Love said the nonstop nature of Academic Affairs has kept her in the same office all these years.
“It’s such a high-functioning, fast-paced place,” she said. “I enjoy wrangling the chaos.”
She particularly enjoys working with faculty, and one of her favorite tasks is the annual recognition of Distinguished Professors. “We have great faculty, and it’s really amazing what they do.”
In her spare time, she loves to watch all kinds of sports, including watching her daughter at softball games. She has also volunteered as a cat cuddler at Animal Humane. She and her husband have a son and a daughter, both of whom are graduating from college in May 2025.
